PADI and Scuba Diving Magazine seek out the world’s best underwater photography to inspire hope for our blue planet

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA., May 18, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — PADI® and scuba diving® magazine join forces to organize their 18th edition Through your lens photo contest with the aim of showcasing the incredible underwater world that needs protection.

“Our Through Your Lens Photo Contest is an incredible opportunity for those passionate about the beauty of the ocean to share their perspective on our underwater world with a global audience,” says Alexandra Gillespiedigital editor for scuba diving.

“The judging panel will be made up of both divers and PADI staff who will evaluate the submissions without knowing the names of the photographers – meaning everyone who enters has an equal chance of winning,” continues Gillespie. “Plus, each award given will further support these photographers to go below the surface and highlight just how amazing our blue planet truly is.”

There are four different submission categories: wide angle, macro, demeanor, and compact camera. The Grand Prize winner will receive a $1,000 cash prizes and a week-long cruise aboard the BVI Aggressor. In addition, the first place winner for each of the specified categories will also receive the week-long Aggressor Adventures cruise trip, second place winners a ScubaPro regulator, and third place winners a SeaLife light or accessory. underwater smartphone case. Selected winners will also have the opportunity to have their photos featured on PADI certification cards.

Past winners of the annual photo contest ranged from stunning images of a whale shark mouth filled with fifty remoras and a manta ray fever dancing in the water at night.

“We are always blown away by the thousands of images we receive from around the world depicting the diversity of the ocean, from tropical reefs to ice divers and tiny nudibranchs,” says Gillespie. “We’re excited to see what underwater photographers around the world have been up to over the past year and to share their captivating content in our annual Photo Issue. It’s images like these that will truly inspire others to take action and create ocean change.”

All winners and honorable mentions will be published in the September/October 2022 Photo issue of Scuba Diving magazine, with the cover depicting one of the contest entries. Registrations are open until June 3 2022 on
