RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA., September 19, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Together, PADI® and scuba diving® magazine announced the winners of their 18th edition Through your lens photo competition, which attracted nearly 2,600 entries from around the world.
“The submissions for our 2022 Through your lens photo competition exceeded our expectations,” says Andy LeisnerChief Consumer Officer of PADI Worldwide, the publisher of scuba diving magazine. “The images in this annual collection of underwater photography are exceptional, unique, and capture what a very small portion of the world’s population has had the opportunity to experience: the remaining 70% of our aquatic planet.”
This year’s big winner is Boz Johnsonwhose striking nocturnal image of a flying fish gliding just below the surface highlights the magic of the underwater world and the beauty to be protected. Through your lens is the first photo taken by Johnson, and he brought home $1,000 of scuba diving magazine and a cruise trip aboard the BVI Aggressor by Aggressor Adventures.
Winning images in the competition’s four categories (macro, wide angle, behavior and compact camera) include: ice diving of a whale carcass, a perch eating another perch, a moray eel opening its mouth to clean its teeth of a blue wrasse, a diver exploring the shallows of a Mexican cenote on a sunny day, a whale shark at night, a mother octopus tending to her eggs, and a black and white shrimp.
The first place winner for each of the specified categories also received the week-long Aggressor Adventures cruise trip, second place winners a SCUBAPRO regulator, and third place winners a SeaLife light or housing accessory from smartphone underwater. Selected winners will also have the opportunity to have their photos featured on PADI certification cards.
